Teaching anyone to play the harp is about love of music, love of creativity, finding ways to work together, and showing students how to love practicing!
Adult students find an "intermission" from busy lives and schedules. Children thrive in a total environment of support; They develop poise, confidence, self-esteem, concentration, and the determination to try difficult things, as well as a lasting enjoyment of music, and the sensitivity and skill for making music. |

Harp Lessons for young children and Suzuki Method |
The Suzuki Method is much more than teaching a child how to play an instrument. It seeks to develop the whole child and unfold his natural potential to learn. The purpose of Suzuki training is not to produce great artists, but to help every child find the joy that comes through making music.
In general, since the parent is actively involved in the learning process, a wonderful exchange takes place during lessons, observation periods, and at home. Children learn about much more than their instrument. Experiencing the joy of music, aided by a trained Suzuki instructor, is what Suzuki is all about. Specifically, children who pursue the Suzuki method are at an advantage because they learn skills that will help them all their lives. These skills include listening, concentrating, focusing, and problem solving in a step-by-step approach. |
FINDING THE JOY that comes through making music also leads to opportunities - Jane’s students have received scholarships and performance opportunities with: The Manhattan School of Music, Stanford University, Brown University, University of Minnesota, Indiana University, Denver University, University of Utah, and Notre Dame University as well as Interlochen Summer Arts Camp and Arts Academy High School, Denver High School for Performing Arts, the Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestra, and “From the Top” on NPR. One student worked with A.R. Rahman in Chennai, India, another student is leaving her performing career in France to perform on tour in India in 2016 (Update: now back in France-- recording and concertizing!), another is an amazing string orchestra teacher in Wisconsin, and YET ANOTHER recently won an audition for a Principal Harp position.

“Jane Zopff has been very positive and encouraging in her teaching approach. She uses humor and is always conscious of improving her teaching methods and adapting for individual needs. We feel very lucky to have her as a teacher.”
“She is just the best harp teacher and understands everything you ask of her. She listens to you, too. And helps both the parent and child.” “We feel truly blessed to have Jane as our teacher. I feel she goes so much beyond what is expected. I took lessons my whole growing up years (age 4-22) and have never witnessed a teacher who gave so much of herself to the students. What I also think is so wonderful is she expects a lot from the students and gets a lot from them without pressure. Some of the ensemble pieces they start at the beginning of the quarter seem almost impossible, but by the end, what an outstanding result she receives.” |
